Riverside Invests in Swedish private school operator
Headquartered in Stockholm, PPS is one of the largest operators of private schools in Sweden, with more than 3,600 students enrolled. Founded in 2000, PPS operates nine schools, primarily located in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö – Swedens three largest cities. The companys core business is upper secondary schools, but PPS also operates schools for children with special needs, as well as compulsory schools.
PPS has a strong position in its core markets and ample growth opportunities in both existing and new markets. We are impressed with the people in PPS and what they have achieved and we are looking forward to partnering with the founding management to further develop and improve the company. With Riversides extensive experience in education and training, we believe that we will make a strong partner for PPS going forward, says Riverside Partner Thomas Blomqvist.
Riverside is an experienced investor in the education and training industry and has invested in over 20 companies in the sector worldwide. Though Riverside is a generalist investor, the firm has completed dozens of transactions and built specialized approaches to industries such as education and training, healthcare, franchising and energy/cleantech.
We are excited about teaming up with Riverside for the next phase of PPS life. Riverside has a long and successful track-record of supporting its portfolio companies and we are convinced that having Riverside as our partner will help us realize our ambitious plans to further improve and grow our company, say PPS founders Gösta Rydell and Greger Fjell.
The investment in PPS marks Riversides second investment in the Nordic region in 2011. In July, Riverside entered the outdoor clothing market with the acquisition of Reima, a Finnish childrens wear brand known for high-quality outdoor clothing.
Riverside acquired PPS from its founding management, who will remain owners alongside Riverside for the next phase of PPSs development. The Riverside team responsible for the transaction included Blomqvist, Vice Presidents Michael Weber and Justin Kent, and Senior Associate Nils Schander. The transaction was originated by Lars Eriksson, Regional Director of Origination for the UK, Nordic & Baltic countries.
Riverside was advised by KPMG, Arthur D. Little and Mannheimer Swartling in this transaction. PPS was advised by Arctos Corporate Finance and Gernandt & Danielsson.
